Play At Home:
Romantic (around 1800 - 1900)
This period of music history sees the emancipation of the composer from ‘employee’ to ‘rock star.’ Throughout Europe and the West the ideas of individualism, emotional expression, egalitarianism, and national identity thrive. Orchestras become quite large and dozens of new instrumental sounds are added to the composers’ palettes. Although religious music is still composed and loved, the movement towards the secular concert hall and opera house becomes the focus of musical innovation.
