SCRS Meeting:
November 7 at 2 PM
Conductor: Joel Peisinger (bio)
HOW TO DETECT A “PHONY”
This session will focus on the musical concept of TEXTURE. We will discuss how to distinguish between MONOPHONY, POLYPHONY and HOMOPHONY.
All the pieces are in full score (except the B part for the Mozart). This format will help us to analyze musical Texture.
Two of the pieces have no Soprano part, so bring along an Alto or Tenor.
If you have a Greatbass, please bring it for the MOZART and PETERSON-BERGER pieces.
Session pieces in order:
PEISINGER My Bro Jim – SATB
ROWLANDS The Bishops and the Clerks (Bagpipes) – SATB
BACH WTK Book 1, Fugue 11 – ATB – Sopranos will need to switch to A or T.
BACH Chorale 7, Nun lob mein Seel – SATB
MORLEY About the Maypole – SSATB
MOZART Divertimento 4, Movt. 1 – AT(BG) – Sopranos will need to switch to A or T.
The B part is a separate file.
PETERSON-BERGER Dalmarsch – SATBG
BRAHMS Abschiedslied – SATB
You can listen to and play along with all these pieces (except the Peisinger and Rowlands) here. For the meeting on November 7th, please use the scores from the buttons labeled "Nov 7 Score(s)" and not the scores from the Download Files buttons in the tiles below.
