The Southern California Recorder Society is an organization for recorder enthusiasts in the greater Los Angeles area. Recorder players from beginning to advanced levels are invited to join. We meet the first Saturday of the month from September through June to play the recorder and to learn, under a different conductor each month, about renaissance and baroque music.

Click here to join.  If you wish to attend for the first time as a non-member, it is free.

SCRS President's Message

Dear SCRS members,

Welcome to our in person 2023/2024 season!

SCRS annual membership fees will be $55. The SCRS board decided not to raise the membership fees this year to avoid any economic hardship on our members. As you know, the annual fees only cover part of the organization's expenses. SCRS would like to ask that you consider making a small donation in addition to your membership fees to help SCRS stay in good economic standing.  Your donation, in any amount, will go a long way and will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Related to Covid: if you or anyone from your family or close group have tested positive for Covid-19 or have flu-like symptoms, please we ask you not to attend the meeting for the safety and well-being of all of us.

Please stay safe and healthy!

Ricardo Berón

SCRS Meeting

December 2 at 2pm, St. Andrew's Lutheran Church

Conductor: David Schnell (bio)

Shepherds

Byrd: The second part (Medius) is in the soprano range, but since it's actually the melody, it would be helpful to include a few alto players who are comfortable reading up an octave.

Several pieces have either two soprano or two alto parts, so presumably soprano/alto players should print both just in case.

There will also be a ¨Guess the Composer" piece, which David will bring the music for (not included in the downloadable files).

  • Amner - O Ye Little Flock

  • Bartok - Romanian Christmas Carols

  • Berlioz - Shepherd's Farewell

  • Byrd - Lullaby

  • Morales - Pastores dicite, quidnam vidistis

  • Sweelinck - Angelus ad pastores ait
